Leather & Tools information

I am new to leather crafting; can you recommend the leather and tools I should start with?

Leather

We personally recommend beginners to start with cow BUTTERO which is a vegetable tanned leather from Italy. It is very easy to work with and a minimum cut will be about S$ 50-60.

Tools

We have compiled a (basic and premium craft set for beginners. Customers that purchase the premium craft set are entitled to free crafting advice from our friendly staff in store.

Is your leather Top (Full) Grain?

Our leathers are Top (Full) grain. The grade is of superior selection other than minor defects found on a natural product.

Can I buy a small leather panel 30x20cm or in other unique sizes?

Yes, you can. We have in cut panels in various sizes for some premium leather from Italy or France. They are usually priced higher due to wastage preparing them. Our customers prefer to buy the whole cut which we sell by the square feet (sq. ft). They range from SGD $50 onwards.

Do you have Vegetable (Vachetta) tanned leather?

Yes, we have Vachetta tanned leather from Italy Walpier, Badalassi Carlos and Etruia, direct from the region of Italy, Tuscany.

Should I use Vegetable (Vachetta) or Chrome tanned leather?

For hand crafting we suggest starting with vegetable tanned leather, as the edges can be polished without applying edge paint. It is also easier to work with and can be hand stitched. The leather will patina (age and oxidize naturally) with time to have a nice shine. Chrome tanned leather are usually used for bulk production with machine stitching.

How do I decide on the thickness?

Drop us a message and we will recommend the correct thickness based on your product needs. In any case, our leather can be split down to 0.8mm.

Can I request the leather I bought to be split in various thickness?

We have a splitting machine in the shop to bring the leather down to 0.8mm. The original width should not exceed 20cm. We charge a nominal for this service for leather bought from our shop.

Should I use Polyester or Linen thread?

Although this is a matter of preference, we suggest Polyester thread as it is easier to handle for beginners. You can always move on to Linen thread when your crafting and stitching skills are better.

What is the material of the accessories?

Our stock mainly consists of Solid Brass accessories.

How would you rate the quality of your tools?

Our tools have gone through rounds of elimination and perfection based on regular feedback from our customers. Our tools are of high standards and many are in house designs for better handling.

Can I try out the tools before buying?

We welcome you to try the tools in our cosy store. We will assist you with the correct way of using the tools before buying.

Can I order a customised leather pouch?

Definitely. We have expertise in assisting customers to create a variety of products ranging from small pouches, leather sandals, backpacks to any unique designs you desire. Please drop us a message or visit us to discuss your needs and we will provide the best assistance dependant on type of leather, colour and your unique design.

Do you conduct basic crafting lessons?

Yes, all customers that purchase our premium crating set are entitled to free coaching and access to our workspace. If you do not wish to make an initial investment on tools, we can organise a basic crafting lesson. Please chat with us for more information.

Do you organise group sessions for leather-crafting?

Yes, we can organise such events for companies/families/friends and more. Contact us with a theme and the number of people. We can arrange to have it in-house or at external locations of your choice.

Orders & shipping

can i order online?

Yes. Our products are available on our Carousell platform for viewing and purchasing. We offer real-time support and product enquiries on WhatsApp as well. Customers are welcomed to have a touch and feel of the products in our physical stores before purchasing.

Where do you ship to?

We provide domestic shipping for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. We also offer international shipping which has a 100% success delivery rate using reputable couriers such as DHL or FedEx. Quotation will be offered after purchase is confirmed and upon knowing the parcel weight.

Can I return or exchange my purchase?

Although we are unable to accept returns, do contact us for an exchange. We will only accept uncut leather and tools in their original packaging sent back to us via freight prepaid.
